This literary narrative journalistic non-fiction book investigates the social dilemma of putting mothers behind bars.
Ten mothers told the author their piercing life stories; and multilayered discussions with their daily guards, psychologists and investigating judges offer you a human and rare glimpse into the world of
a forgotten group of inmates whose voice is seldom heard.
She also looked into their worldwide situation and history., as yes: once upon a time, it was even worse.
The
premisse:
Can a mother who is capable of committing crimes, even murder, even
murder of one of their own children still be a good mother? A delicate question
that deserves a thoroughly investigated answer, because every crime has several
victims: the victim and his/her family,
but also the children of the offender, since they often end up in foster
families or institutions.
Sabine De Vos went to three prisons to talk to ten
mothers behind bars to listen to their life stories, the reason why they ended
up there and their relationship with their children, if there even is one.
If
you like true stories and psychology, this one is definitely for you.
